As Brian Aldiss enters his 89th year, we’re publishing a long-overdue retrospective of the career of one of the most acclaimed science fiction writers of all time, and a true literary legend. Here is a short note to mark the occasion from Brian Aldiss himself and his publisher, Scott Pack.
Escaping from the Army at the end of the war, I moved from Devon to Oxford. I was mad about books and had already written a novel. So I got work on starvation wages in a bookshop in Oxford High Street. Ever since, I’ve been writing. Several books – eighty, in fact – and I am delighted to see so many being reissued by The Friday Project. It is like revisiting old friends. I hope you enjoy revisiting them yourselves, or perhaps meeting them for the first time.
All best,
Brian Aldiss
A short note from Scott Pack:
As we approach his 90th birthday, I am incredibly proud that Brian Aldiss has entrusted The Friday Project with reissuing his backlist. We now have over 30 titles in print with more to come across this landmark year including the first volume of his Complete Short Stories. On these pages we feature just a small selection of highlights, including some lost classics, as well as his first ever published short story for you to enjoy. There is also a full list of available titles on the back page. I hope you will have time to check your shelves and order up some books by the true grandmaster of British science fiction.
